Ichtyosuarus Dinosaur Granada Gallery

PREHISTORIC OCEANIC REPTILES LIKE MOSASAURS, PLESIOSAURS, ICHTYOSAURS AND ANCIENT TURTLES WERE FAR LARGER THAN ANY MODERN DAY MARINE REPTILE, GROWING TO LENGTHS OF UP TO 26 METERS.

MOSASAURUS LOOKED LIKE MARINE EQUIVELANTS OF MODERN DAY KOMODO DRAGONS HAVING AN ELONGATED PADDLE-LIKE TAIL WHICH THEY USED TO PROPEL THEMSELVES THROUGH THE WATER.

PLESIOSAURS COULD BE EASILY IDENTIFIED BY THEIR ELONGATED NECKS AND HAVING FOR FLIPPERS WHICH THEY USED FOR PROPULSION.

ICHTYOSAURS HAD A SIMILAR BUILD AS MODERN DAY DOLPHINS, THE MEAN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO WAS THAT DOLPHINS LIKE ALL MARINE MAMMALS HAD HORIZONTAL TAILS WHILE ICHTYOSAURS HAD VERTICAL TAILS.
