GEORG SCHMERHOLZ

Considered one of the most prominent and influential Western Jade Artists, his work garnered multiple Gold and Silver Awards at Zi Gang Bei, a prestigious International Jade competition in Suzhou, China.

Originally from Transylvania, Romania, Georg lived in Italy and Sweden before moving to

Canada in the early 70’s, where he became a prominent sculptor in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Georg  relocated to Northern California in 2001, and lives and works on a secluded 10 acres in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

With extensive experience in all sculptural media, his work evolved into a style of juxtaposing contrasting surface finishes, textures, colors, and materials.  As an extension, this approach to sculptural art became his ‘trademark’ when he immersed himself in the world of jade in 2007.
