Crocodile Fossil Granada Gallery

TERRESTRIAL FOSSILS WERE LIVING ORGANISMS LIKE ANIMALS, PLANTS, BACTERIA OR FUNGI THAT EXISTED ON LAND AND UNDERWENT A FOSSILIZATION PROCESS AFTER THEY PASSED AWAY. ALSO FOOTPRINTS OR BURROWS ARE FOSSILS EXIST THAT ARE CALLED TRACE FOSSILS.

THE FOSSILIZATION PROCESS ONLY HAPPENS IF THE CONDITIONS AND THE ENVIRONMENT ARE IDEAL TO PRESERVE THE BODY. A LOT OF ASPECTS DEPENDED ON THE SOIL OR LAYER THAT COVERED THE BODY, TEMPERATURE... MOSTLY THE TOUGHEST PARTS OF A LIVING ORGANISM WILL TURN INTO A FOSSIL, LIKE BONES OR PLANTS. BUT SOMETIMES ALSO SOFT-BODIES ARE ABLE TO BE PRESERVED AS A FOSSIL.

A SHORT SUMMARY OF A FOSSIL:
ORGANISM PASSES AWAY - BEING BURIED IN SOFT SEDIMENT DEPRIVED OF OXYGEN - OVER TIME THE ORGANIC MATERIAL GETS REPLACED BY VARYING MINERAL COMPOSITIONS BUT RETAINING THE STRUCTURE AND OVERALL SHAPE - THE SOIL SURROUNDING THE FOSSIL ERODES AWAY OR GETS REMOVED BY PALEONTOLOGISTS EXPOSING THE FOSSIL FOR EXTRACTION.
